Privacy Policy
Last reviewed: April 25, 2026
This privacy policy explains how Americain.org ("the Site") collects, uses, and protects information about people who visit the Site. It applies to all pages published under the americain.org domain.
1. Who we are
The Site is operated by the editorial team of Americain.org. For any privacy-related question, you can write to contact@americain.org.
2. Information we collect
2.1 Server logs
Like most websites, our hosting provider automatically records technical logs that include:
- IP address (often shortened for security purposes)
- Date and time of the request
- URL requested
- HTTP response code
- Browser and operating system advertised by the request (User-Agent)
- Referring page, when sent by the browser
These logs are kept for a limited period for security, debugging, and abuse-prevention purposes. They are not used to identify you personally.
2.2 Audience measurement (Google Analytics)
The Site uses Google Analytics 4, an analytics service provided by Google LLC. Google Analytics places cookies or similar identifiers on your device to measure traffic, understand which pages are most read, and improve our content. The information collected may include:
- IP address (anonymized by default)
- Pages viewed and visit duration
- Device type, browser, and screen resolution
- Acquisition source (direct, search engine, referral)
- Approximate country / region
For more information, see Google's Privacy Policy. You can opt out of tracking by installing the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
2.3 Google AdSense advertising
The Site may display advertisements served by Google AdSense (Google LLC) and its third-party partners. As a result:
- Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this Site.
- Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to users based on their visits to this Site and other sites on the Internet.
- You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can also opt out of some third-party vendors' use of cookies via aboutads.info/choices or youronlinechoices.com.
Where required by applicable law (including in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland), Google operates a consent framework that complies with the relevant rules. Your choices are then collected via a consent banner.
2.4 Email correspondence
If you write to contact@americain.org, we use your email address and the content of your message solely to respond to you. Messages are kept only for as long as needed to follow up, and are then deleted.
3. Cookies and similar technologies
The Site uses several categories of cookies:
- Strictly necessary cookies: none are currently set for core operation (no user accounts, no shopping cart).
- Audience-measurement cookies: set by Google Analytics (see §2.2).
- Advertising cookies: set by Google AdSense and its partners (see §2.3) to serve ads and measure their performance.
You can clear or block cookies at any time through your browser settings. For more details, see our Cookie Policy.
4. Legal basis and purposes
- Server logs: legitimate interest in keeping the Site secure and available.
- Audience measurement and advertising: user consent (where required), or legitimate interest, depending on the applicable jurisdiction.
- Replying to a contact message: necessary to respond to a request you initiated.
5. Sharing with third parties
We do not sell or rent your data. The only entities that may receive information related to your visit are:
- Our hosting provider, for technical delivery of the Site.
- Google LLC, for Google Analytics and Google AdSense, under the terms set by Google.
- AdSense advertising partners, under the terms set by Google.
- A competent public authority, if legally required.
6. International transfers
Google services may transfer data to the United States or to other countries. Google relies on the Standard Contractual Clauses issued by the European Commission and on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework to govern those transfers. Details are available in Google's official documentation.
7. Your rights
Under the GDPR (EU Regulation 2016/679) and the CCPA / CPRA (California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended), you have, depending on your jurisdiction, the following rights:
- Access: request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
- Rectification: have inaccurate data corrected.
- Erasure: request deletion of your data ("right to be forgotten").
- Restriction: limit how we process your data.
- Objection: object to processing, including for advertising purposes.
- Portability: receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.
- Withdraw consent at any time, where processing is based on it.
- Lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in France, the CNIL; California residents may contact the California Office of the Attorney General).
- California residents specifically: the right to opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information, as those terms are defined under California law.
To exercise these rights, write to contact@americain.org. We respond within a reasonable timeframe, no later than one month.
8. Retention
- Server logs: typically a few weeks to a few months.
- Google Analytics data: retained by Google according to the property's default duration (often 14 months).
- AdSense cookies: as set by Google and its partners.
- Contact emails: kept only as long as needed for follow-up, then deleted.
9. Children
The Site is not specifically directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal data from minors. If you believe a minor has shared personal data through the contact email, write to us so that we can delete it.
10. Security
The Site is served over HTTPS so that traffic between your browser and our servers is encrypted. The Site does not directly maintain a database of personal information.
11. External links
The Site contains links to external resources (government sites, news outlets, official organizations). Those sites have their own privacy policies, over which we have no control.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy to reflect changes in our practices, in third-party services, or in the legal framework. The "Last reviewed" date at the top of the page reflects the most recent update. Changes take effect upon publication.
