Cookie Policy
Last reviewed: October 31, 2026
This page complements the Privacy Policy and explains how Americain.org ("the Site") uses cookies and similar technologies (web beacons, browser-stored identifiers, tracking pixels).
1. What is a cookie?
A cookie is a small text file placed on your device when you visit a website. It allows the site, or a third-party service embedded on it, to remember information between visits — for example a language preference, browsing behavior, or an advertising identifier.
Depending on origin, cookies are first-party (set by americain.org) or third-party (set by an external service such as Google Analytics). Depending on purpose, they fall into several categories.
2. Categories of cookies used
2.1 Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are essential for a site to function. Because Americain.org has no user accounts, no shopping cart, and no subscription system, the Site itself sets none at present. If a future feature required one (for example, remembering a language choice), it would be a minimal cookie carrying no personal data.
2.2 Audience-measurement cookies
The Site uses Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages are most read and to improve content. This relies on third-party cookies set by Google.
| Cookie | Set by | Purpose | Duration |
|---|---|---|---|
_ga | Google Analytics | Distinguish unique users | Up to 2 years |
_ga_<ID> | Google Analytics 4 | Maintain session state | Up to 2 years |
Exact names and durations may vary based on Google's configuration. See the official Google Analytics documentation for up-to-date detail.
2.3 Advertising cookies
The Site does not currently display ads and sets no advertising cookies. If that changes, this page will be updated.
2.4 Functional and social cookies
The Site does not currently embed third-party social sharing widgets or third-party players that set additional functional cookies. If such an integration is added later, this page will be updated.
3. Consent
The Site does not show a consent banner: the Google Analytics cookies described above are set as soon as a page opens. You can at any time:
- Configure your browser to refuse all or some cookies.
- Delete cookies that have already been stored, from your browser settings.
- Install the Google Analytics opt-out add-on (see section 5).
4. Browser-level controls
Every browser provides a cookie management panel. Official help pages:
Private browsing mode also limits how long cookies are kept. The "Do Not Track" setting does not guarantee that third-party services will honor it.
5. Opt out of Google Analytics
To prevent data from being sent to Google Analytics, you can install Google's Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
6. Updates to this policy
This policy may change as third-party services, the legal framework, or the Site itself evolves. The "Last reviewed" date at the top reflects the most recent update.
7. Contact
For any cookie-related question, write to contact@americain.org. See also the Privacy Policy and the contact page.
